Users represent individuals with access to the Security Center SaaS system. System administrators create user entities and configure their rights and privileges in Genetec™ Configuration.

Defining users, groups, and cardholders

Security Center SaaS defines users, groups, and cardholders as follows:
Users
People who have access to the Genetec Configuration, Genetec™ Operation, or both. All users must have an account at https://login.genetec.com. If a user doesn't have an existing account, they are prompted to create one when added to the system.
Groups
Groups of users who share common properties and privileges.
Cardholders
People who can enter and exit secured areas by their credentials (typically access cards). Cardholder activities can be tracked.

Privileges and access rights

User attributes restrict what a person can do on the system:
Privileges
Limits the types of activities the user can perform on the system. The role that is given to a user defines the privileges they have.
Access rights for partitions
Limits the entities the user can exercise their privileges on.

How users are managed

System administrators add user entities on the Users page in Genetec Configuration web. Each user is assigned a role, which provides a pre-configured set of privileges and access rights. The roles are:
Owner
This role is designed for system owners. It grants user management privileges and the ability to accept terms and conditions. Only an Owner can grant or remove this role.
Administrator
This role is designed for system administrators. It provides full access to both Genetec Configuration and Genetec Operation.
Operator
This role is designed for security operators who monitor real-time events within the system. It provides access to Genetec Operation.

Advanced configuration

Some users might require a different set of privileges or access rights than those provided by their assigned role. When this occurs, an administrator can make adjustments using the User management task in Genetec Configuration desktop.
