About users and roles
2026-08-04Last updated
Users represent individuals with access to the Security Center SaaS system. System administrators create user entities with pre-defined roles and configure their rights and privileges.
Users, groups, and cardholders
Security Center SaaS defines users, groups, and cardholders as follows:
- Users
- People who have access to Security Center SaaS. All users must have an account at https://login.genetec.com. If a user doesn't have an existing account, they are prompted to create one when added to the system.
- Groups
- Groups of users who share common properties and privileges.
- Cardholders
- People who can enter and exit secured areas by using their credentials (typically access cards). Cardholder activities can be tracked.
Privileges and access rights
Privileges and access rights define what a user can do in the system:
- Privileges
- Limits the types of activities the user can perform on the system.
- Access rights for partitions
- Limits the entities the user can exercise their privileges on.
Roles
Each user is assigned a role, which provides a pre-configured set of access rights and
privileges.
- Owner
- This role is designed for system owners. It grants user management privileges and the ability to accept terms and conditions. Only an Owner can grant or remove this role.
- Administrator
- This role is designed for system administrators. It provides full access to all tasks.
- Operator
- This role is designed for security operators who monitor real-time events within the system. It provides access to all tasks except for Configuration.
- Front desk
- This role is for staff who manage visitors at the front desk. It provides basic access control privileges.
Advanced configuration
Some users might require a different set of privileges or access rights than those provided by the default roles. When this occurs, an administrator can make adjustments using the User management task in Genetec™ Configuration desktop.
