Edge recording is the process of recording and storing video directly on a camera's SD card, allowing cameras to retain recordings independently, rather than in the cloud or in a centralized recording server.

        In Security Center SaaS, a read-only camera is a device already managed by another video management system (VMS) and added to a Cloudlink appliance. You can record and monitor video streams from the read-only camera, but you cannot change the camera configuration settings.

        Camera dewarping is the transformation used to straighten a digital image taken with a fisheye lens. You can dewarp live and playback video from direct-to-cloud and managed Archiver cameras.

Edge recording

Edge recording is the process of recording and storing video directly on a camera's SD card, allowing cameras to retain recordings independently, rather than in the cloud or in a centralized recording server.

Requirements for edge recording

Edge recording is only available on specific camera models. For supported devices and firmware, see the Security Center SaaS Supported Device List.

Where to configure edge recording

Configure your cameras using the default edge recording profile available in Security Center SaaS, or create a custom camera profile and set the Recording location to Camera edge.

Note:

Configuring edge recording directly from the camera's web interface can cause unexpected errors and playback issues. Only configure edge recording for your cameras using the recording profiles in the Configuration task.

Edge recording storage considerations

Recordings are only stored on one SD card.
If the SD card is unavailable or fails, recordings are not retained.
If the device contains two SD cards, the system records to the SD card with the most available storage.
When an edge recording profile is applied, the system shows the SD card's available capacity on the device's Settings page. If a different recording profile is in use, see the device's web page for available capacity.
Motion-activated recording is not supported.

SD card mounting and formatting

On devices that support edge recording, Security Center SaaS automatically mounts and formats the device's SD card. This process includes encrypting the card and generating a passphrase. To obtain the passphrase, contact the Genetec™ Technical Assistance Center.

Best practices for SD card usage

Periodically review your edge storage usage in the Storage section of your camera's Overview tab.
