How camera analytics events work in Security Center SaaS

2025-09-24Last updated

An event is a record of an activity or incident that occurred in the system. Security personnel can monitor events in real time and investigate them later. Events can also trigger automations in the system.

Camera analytics events are high-level events or notifications generated when a camera’s analytics engine detects something that matches a predefined rule or trigger. They are interpreted outcomes, not raw data. For example, Loitering detected for more than 30 seconds, Person detected in Zone XYZ, Intrusion alarm triggered, and so on. Events are typically binary or categorical (they either happen or don’t) and are designed to be actionable; triggering alarms, recordings, or automated workflows.

Camera analytics events include motion events and object analytics and are configured at the individual camera level. You can use camera analytics events for monitoring in Genetec Operation or for event-to-actions in Genetec Configuration desktop.

Activating camera analytics events

To activate or deactivate camera analytics events, on the Devices page select a camera and then click the Settings tab. In the Events and metadata section, select or clear the Enable camera analytics events checkbox.

Deactivating camera analytics events in Security Center SaaS unsubscribes the system from those events. Event generation on the cameras is unaffected.
Note:
Turning on or off specific camera analytics events isn’t currently supported.

Supported event types

Supported event types vary depending on how the camera is added, the manufacturer, features that the camera supports, and devices that Security Center SaaS supports.

The supported event types can include one or more of the following, depending on the previously stated dependencies:
  • Motion events
  • Object analytics
  • Axis cameras: Axis Object Analytics (AOA)
  • Axis cameras: FenceGuard analytics
  • Bosch cameras: Firearm detection

Security Center SaaS supports Bosch firearm detection, provided the cameras have firmware 9.40 or later (CPP14 and AI) and the required Bosch licenses. In Security Center SaaS, the firearm detection event is named “Object detected in field” with the description “Detect firearm in hand”.

Tip:
In Genetec Configuration, you can display a complete list of supported event types by clicking Options > Events .

Licensing

The Bosch camera must have a valid license for “IVA Pro Visual Gun Detection” installed. To configure the camera for Visual Gun Detection, use the Bosch Configuration Manager application and follow the Manufacturer instructions in the Intelligent Video Analytics (IVA) Pro Configuration Manual.

Monitoring events

You can use Genetec Operation to monitor camera analytics events in your systems in real-time using a watchlist. You can also use the Reports task to view past events for analysis and investigation purposes.
Watchlist
Camera analytics events could be used with Bosch cameras to monitor for events of interest. For example, Object detected in Field, Detect firearm in field, and so on.
Reports
You can generate a customized query about specific events using the Reports task. For example, to generate a report about camera analytics events for specific event types of interest: Motion on, Motion off, Object detected in field, and so on.
Note:
Events in a watchlist are visible for 15 mins. After that, you must generate a report in the Reports task.
