Creating maps
A map entity is a two-dimensional diagram that enables you to interact with your security equipment, while providing a reference to their physical locations and statuses. You create maps using the Map designer task.
Adjusting the information displayed on maps

  - How to work with maps in Security Center SaaS
    Maps in Security Center SaaS enhance situational awareness and system security by enabling users to view and navigate your facilities in real time. They also ease the management of cameras, doors, and other entities.

    Use the Map designer task to create and edit maps that represent physical locations of your equipment to Security Center SaaS users.

    Map objects graphically represent system entities, such as cameras, doors, and intrusion detection areas, as clickable objects on maps. They let you monitor and interact with your system without leaving the map.

    The Map Manager centrally manages all mapping resources in your system, including imported map files, external map providers, and KML objects. It also acts as the map server for client applications and as the record provider for system entities placed on georeferenced maps.

  - Adding text, images, and shapes to your maps
    You can add text, images, and shapes to your maps to indicate points of interest or to represent entities using something other than the standard look. These map objects can also function as map links.
  - Adding KML objects to your maps
    You can add geographic features and dynamic information, such as roads and traffic flow, to georeferenced maps. This is done by importing Keyhole Markup Language (KML) objects to the Map Manager role.
  - Showing mobile users on maps
    To show mobile users on maps, you must enable location sharing on Security Center SaaS Operation devices and grant the View mobile users privilege to Security Center SaaS users.
  - Exporting and printing maps
    You can export or print your Security Center SaaS maps to PNG or PDF, or print physical copies to share important information outside Security Center SaaS.

Adjusting the information displayed on maps

To avoid obstructing important map details, you can adjust a layer’s opacity and set map object icons to automatically scale with the zoom level.

What you should know

Operation desktop users cannot change a map layer’s opacity or enable auto‑scaling; these settings can only be configured from Configuration desktop.

Procedure

In the Map designer menu, click Map > Layers .
A dialog box that lists all available layers for your map opens.
Point to the layer you want to change, and click the cogwheel ().
In the widget that opens, drag the Opacity slider until you get the desired effect on the map.
Control when map objects are visible on a map by doing one of the following:
- Set the Visible from zoom percentages to create a threshold for when a map object layer is visible or hidden from view.
- Select the Auto scale option to have the map objects on a given layer automatically scale up or down depending on the zoom distance.
  Note:
  Auto scale is only available on geographic and georeferenced image maps. For more information on how to georeference a map, see Georeferencing a map image.
Repeat with other layers if necessary.
In the Map designer toolbar, click Save ().
