Configuring edge recording on an Axis direct-to-cloud camera

2026-07-15Last updated

To store video locally on your Axis direct-to-cloud (D2C) camera, you can associate it to an edge recording profile. Edge recording can help you save on storage costs while reducing the uplink bandwidth required to upload all recordings to the cloud.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that a supported SD card is inserted in your camera. For more information about which SD cards to use with your unit, see Axis documentation.
  • Ensure your camera is running firmware version 11.11 or later.

What you should know

Edge recording should only be configured using the edge recording profiles in the Configuration task. Configuring edge recording directly from the camera's web interface can cause unexpected errors and playback issues.
Important:
When an edge recording profile is selected, the customer manages recordings stored locally on an SD card. There's no fallback if an SD card is unavailable or if the SD card fails.

Procedure

  1. From the Devices page in the Configuration task, select an Axis D2C camera.
    Tip:
On large systems, use the filters on the Devices page to quickly find a device.
  2. Click the Settings tab in the side pane.
  3. In the Video section, from the Recording profile list, select either the default Camera edge recording profile or your own edge recording profile.
  4. Click Save.

After you finish

  • Periodically review your edge storage utilization in the Storage section of your camera's Overview tab.
  • Set up SD card wear level monitoring from the Axis camera admin System > Events page. For more information, see the Axis documentation.
