Axis direct-to-cloud device onboarding considerations
Axis direct-to-cloud devices in Security Center SaaS have specific requirements and system behaviors that you should understand before adding a device. After you add the device, you must activate it to complete onboarding and bring it online.
Before you add an Axis direct-to-cloud device
- Compatibility
- Security Center SaaS supports specific Axis direct-to-cloud devices. For information
on compatible devices, see the Security Center SaaS Supported Devices List.
If your Axis direct-to-cloud device supports edge recording, insert a supported SD card. For information about supported SD cards, see the Axis documentation.
- Connectivity
- Ensure the device can reach the required domains so it can connect to Axis services.
- Required information
- Verify that you have the required information to add the device.
- Licensing
- Confirm that your license supports the number of devices you plan to add. The number of supported device connections is shown on the General page in the Subscriptions Portal.
- Reset to factory settings
- If the device was previously enrolled in a different system, you should reset it to its factory settings.
After you add a device
- Activation
- The system adds the device in an inactive state. Activation begins when you press
the device's control button. Activation installs firmware, downloads updates, and
brings the device online.Note:If you don’t have physical access to the device, you can enable the one-click cloud connection on the device's web interface by setting Allow O3C to Always. This setting reverts from Always to NO during activation.
- Credential management
- Security Center SaaS removes any existing credentials and replaces them with a unique username and password that comply with strong password policies. You can view the device credentials on the device's Overview page in Security Center SaaS.
- Access to device-specific pages
- The system displays the device on the Devices page of the Configuration task. Selecting the device opens a side pane with device-specific pages, such as the Overview and Settings pages. If you're adding intercoms and speakers, they are also added to the Address Book.
- SD card mounting and formatting
- For Axis direct-to-cloud devices that support edge recording, Security Center SaaS
automatically mounts and formats the device's SD card. This process includes
encrypting the card and generating a passphrase. To obtain the passphrase, contact the
Genetec™ Technical Assistance Center.
Security Center SaaS supports only one SD card per device. If a device contains two cards, the system mounts, formats, and records to the card with the most available storage. The system shows the SD card's available capacity on the device's Settings page when an edge recording profile is applied. If a different recording profile is in use, see the device's web page for available capacity.
