Edge recording is the process of recording and storing video directly on a camera's SD card. Cameras can keep recordings independently rather than in the cloud or in a centralized recording server.

        In Security Center SaaS, a read-only camera is a device already managed by another video management system (VMS) and added to a Cloudlink appliance. You can record and monitor video streams from the read-only camera, but you cannot change the camera configuration settings.

        Camera dewarping is the transformation used to straighten a digital image taken with a fisheye lens. You can dewarp live and playback video from direct-to-cloud and managed Archiver cameras.

Edge recording

Edge recording is the process of recording and storing video directly on a camera's SD card. Cameras can keep recordings independently rather than in the cloud or in a centralized recording server.

Requirements for edge recording

Edge recording is only available on specific Axis direct-to-cloud camera models. For supported devices and firmware, see the Security Center SaaS Supported Device List.

Note:

Only configure edge recording for your cameras using the recording profiles in the Configuration task. Configuring edge recording directly from the camera's web interface can cause unexpected errors and playback issues.

Edge recording considerations

When performing an investigation in Security Center SaaS, entry and exit detections can take up to 3 minutes to load.
Motion-activated recording is not supported.

SD card configuration and storage behavior

The SD card is automatically mounted, formatted, and encrypted in Security Center SaaS.
A passphrase is generated during encryption. To obtain the passphrase, contact the Genetec™ Technical Assistance Center (GTAC)
Recordings are stored on a single SD card.
If the SD card is unavailable or fails, recordings are not retained.
If the device has two SD cards, the system records to the card with the most available storage.
When an edge recording profile is applied, the system displays the SD card's available capacity on the device's Settings page in Security Center SaaS. If a different recording profile is in use, see the device's web page for available capacity.

Best practices for SD card usage

Periodically review your edge storage usage in the Storage section of your camera's Overview tab.
