About the Map Manager
The Map Manager is the role responsible for managing the mapping resources used by Security Center SaaS. It manages map providers, KML objects, default maps, and map objects used as record types. It also acts as the map server for client applications and as the record provider for system entities placed on georeferenced maps.
The Map Manager is created by default during Security Center SaaS provisioning. You only need to configure it to accomplish one or more of the following goals:
- Configure GIS map providers.
- Import KML objects to display on georeferenced maps.
- Set the default map for the system.
- Configure map objects as record types for location correlation and investigations.
Map providers
Map providers are Geographic Information Systems (GIS) that supply the geographic data used to create georeferenced maps. Map providers can be online or offline, and most require a license.
Security Center SaaS supports the following map providers:
- Azure
- Provides online road and satellite maps from Microsoft.
- Custom *
- Connects to a Tile Map Service (TMS) server.
- Provides online general-purpose, satellite, and terrain maps from Google.
- WMS
- Connects to a Web Map Service (WMS) server.
The order of map providers determines the geocoding priority. The Map Manager queries the provider at the top of the list first. If that provider cannot return a result, the Map Manager queries the next provider in the list.
KML objects
You can import KML objects to add geographic features and dynamic information to georeferenced maps. KML objects can represent static features, such as roads and buildings, or dynamic information, such as weather conditions and traffic flow.
Default map
The system default map, also known as the global default map, is initially loaded for all users when they open the Maps task. Default maps configured for a user group or an individual user override the system default map.
Map objects as record types
You can configure map object types as record types for location correlation. The registered map objects can be viewed in the Unified report investigation task and filtered by location, name, description, and entity attributes.
Map connectivity requirements
Depending on the type of maps you use, specific network ports must be open so client applications can retrieve map background images.
- For image maps, Genetec™ Operation and Genetec™ Configuration retrieve map images from the Map Manager over TCP port 8012.
- For geographic maps, Operation and Configuration communicate directly with map providers over TCP port 443.
