Configuring edge recording on Axis direct-to-cloud cameras

2026-07-21Last updated

To store video locally on your Axis direct-to-cloud (D2C) cameras, you can associate multiple cameras to an edge recording profile at once. Edge recording can help you save on storage costs while reducing the uplink bandwidth required to upload all recordings to the cloud.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that a supported SD card is inserted in your cameras. For more information about which SD cards to use with your unit, see Axis documentation.
  • Ensure your cameras are running firmware version 11.11 or later.

What you should know

Edge recording should only be configured using the edge recording profiles in the Configuration task. Configuring edge recording directly from the camera's web interface can cause unexpected errors and playback issues.
Important:
When an edge recording profile is selected, the customer manages recordings stored locally on an SD card. There's no fallback if an SD card is unavailable or if the SD card fails.

Procedure

  1. In the sidebar of the Configuration task, click Video settings.
  2. From the Recording profiles list, select an edge recording profile.
  3. In the recording profile sidebar, click the Cameras tab.
  4. Click Associate cameras with profile then search for or select your Axis D2C cameras for edge recording.
Only cameras that support the recording profile's recording location are shown.
  5. If your camera is a multisensor camera, select one or more sensors to associate with the recording profile.
  6. Click Associate cameras.

After you finish

  • Periodically review your edge storage utilization in the Storage section of your camera's Overview tab.
  • Set up SD card wear level monitoring from the Axis camera admin System > Events page. For more information, see the Axis documentation.
