Modifying recording profiles

2025-06-19Last updated

To address a change in camera configuration requirements, you can modify a recording profile. For example, to change the profile name, video settings, or the video retention period.

Before you begin

Add your recording profiles.

What you should know

If you modify a profile to have a shorter retention period, any recordings older than the new retention period will be deleted immediately for all affected cameras.

Video data might be deleted if local storage is full or the cloud connection experiences a prolonged disruption or slowdown.

The recording location can’t be changed after a recording profile has been created. To modify a camera's recording location, associate it with a profile configured to a different location.

Procedure

  1. In the Genetec™ Configuration web sidebar, click System and select a recording profile.
  2. In the Properties tab, modify the recording profile settings as required.
    1. Change the name of the recording profile.
    2. In the Video section, modify the Resolution, Frame rate, or Maximum bit rate settings.
    3. In the Storage section, modify the Video retention settings.
Properties tab in Genetec Configuration web sidebar showing modified recording profile settings.
  3. Click Save.
Configurations for all associated cameras are updated.

If a camera doesn't support a setting, an information message in the Recording profile Cameras tab shows that the settings have been adjusted to the nearest supported level.

After you finish

(Optional) Delete any recording profiles that are no longer required.
  1. Select a recording profile.
  2. In the sidebar, click Show more () then click Delete.
    Note:
The delete function is only available when a recording profile no longer has any associated cameras.
  3. In the Delete dialog, click Delete recording profile to confirm deletion.
