Adding intrusion detection areas as shapes on maps

2026-02-02Last updated

You can add an intrusion detection area as a shape on a map. Their color updates automatically when the area’s state changes, helping operators respond to alarms faster.

Before you begin

Create the map where you want to add your graphical objects.

Procedure

  1. From the homepage in Genetec™ Configuration desktop, open the Map designer task.
  2. Select a recent map or click Browse all maps to open an existing map.
The selected map fills the Map designer workspace.
  3. In the toolbar, click a shape.
  4. Draw the shape on the map.
    To draw a polygon:
    • Click once to add an endpoint.
    • Click the first endpoint to close the shape.
    • Use Shift+click to add or remove a point between two points.
    • Double-click a point to complete the shape without closing it.
  5. Click the list in the Identity widget, select the intrusion area to link to the shape.
Map objects inherit their identity from the entity they represent. If used only to mark a point of interest, you don’t need to assign an entity. Unassigned map objects have no name.
  6. (Optional) To make the shape a map link, click the list in the Links widget and select a map.
